Metaverse-Prime is the central continuity of the Metaverse setting, focusing around the San Francisco Bay Area, but incorporating an entire region of space including much of our Milky Way Galaxy and beyond. Metaverse-Prime is occasionally redacted to incorporate the continuity of previous campaigns, often by pushing events back several years or decades, or by altering the continuity of events to better fit the setting as a whole. A prime example of this pattern of redaction involves the classic Villains and Vigilantes starter scenario, Crisis at Crusader Citadel, which by time-honored tradition starts nearly every V&V campaign.
The Cosmology of Metaverse-Prime involves a naturally occurring phenominon known as the Galactic Ley Line, which affects the provess of evolution on all worlds in the galaxy. As stars move, the position of these ley lines shift, so tha worlds undergo periods of hyper-accelerated Metagenesis followed by long periods of dormancy, during which time newly developed traits and abilities can spread into the general population through the process of natural selection. This Ley Line Energy, also known as Sidereal Radiation, Dark-Flow energy, and Cosmic Energy, is responsible for the development of miraculous superhuman abilities in the population through the process of Metagenesis.
Unlike many comic book settings, the VCU is not meant to serve as an accurate representation of modern-day Earth with the addition of costumed characters. Rather, it is meant to incorporate comic book mythology and then speculate on the world-wide ramifications of the existance of superbeings (referred to in the setting as Metahumans and super-technology (referred to as Metatech). Because Metahumans have existed since the Golden Age, there have been many generations of potentially world-changing events, leading to a world setting that is cosmetically familliar to a person from Ourverse, but at the same time drastically different.
